Windows users using the Edge browser are happy. We had not done anything different and had been streaming fine for a year and this problem seems specific to Windows users using Chrome, Firefox, or IE browsers. VOD was working fine, but the live stream was not. We offer a live stream as well as vod.īut for no reason around mid-week last week (around Wednesday/Thursday Nov 21/22) last week we started receiving reports from our viewers that the live stream was not working. We use AWS with a Wowza Streaming Engine for our cdn and JSPlayer embedded on our website. well, I can only imagine how annoying they must be for software providers.Ĭurrently we are struggling with what seems to be a Windows-specific issue. Since I avoid Windows as much as possible, I don't know: does Microsoft seed updates as substantially as Apple? Because seriously, these more frequent OS updates must be more devastating and annoying for software houses. So I know that Apple seeds their updates substantially with developers. I have a followup question on this topic: Mac vs Windows. So in some cases MACs might be better, I see that as well. Some major software is only available on windows.Ī lot of users I know install windows natively on a MAC. From experiences servicing multiple companies with IT administration I would always recommend windows. I know it's not fair to list only pro's for windows and con's for MACs but I went through a lot of pain with the apple. If older than 5 years no chance to get a service. If you want to upgrade you have to buy a new computer Everything is welded onto a single board. If you replace parts on your own they refuse to service the device even in waranty.Only authorized dealers are allowed to service devices. If out of Waranty every touch is expensive if you have to service. If a single part dies you can replace it.Mobo with Xeon s as well (more cores) for a reasonable price.I come from a windows background and would opt for a windows computer. There's a lot of third party software that may be useful for streaming that's Windows only.Windows computers have variation and customization ensuring you're not paying for anything you don't need. Many Windows laptops have Ethernet ports built in while Mac laptops require hardware adaptors. Some Windows computers have one Thunderbolt port if that's all you need.A Windows advantage is being able to use NVENC if you have a recent Nvidia GPU (Kepler and above).Macs can run Windows natively so you have both Operating System options and allow for some uncommon combinations such as multiple Thunderbolt ports running under Windows.Macs retain higher resale value when the age compared to Windows.Resources for third party software like Mac App Store tend to decrease security risks. The control of system hardware from a single manufacturer tends to take guesswork (and options) out of system building and troubleshooting.Often multiple USB3 ports may be on the same bus so Thunderbolt avoids this potential issue. You could have four inputs on a single port, leaving other ports available for RAID0 external recording. Another Mac advantage is support for multiple Thunderbolt ports.A Mac advantage is being able to do local recordings in Apple ProRes.
